The dental residents’ day typically starts at 7:45 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. with a meeting, seminar, lecture, case presentation, literature review, or patient treatment. Patients are then scheduled and seen until 4:00 p.m. with a 45 minutes lunch in between the morning and afternoon. This does not include the times dental residents are scheduled out for medical rotations or other assignments. Typically, patients are scheduled for 45-60 minute appointments with some exceptions. On average a resident will see approximately 2,000 patient visits each program year. That includes walk-in daytime emergencies that are equally shared by all residents. Additional lectures may also be scheduled at other times of the day according to attending schedules.
Clinical
- All phases of general dentistry are provided to patients including crown & bridge and implants
- Medically compromised (approximately 35 percent of patients treated)
- Developmentally disabled patients (approximately 15 to 20 percent of patients treated)
- Wheelchair patients (approximately 5 percent of patients treated)
- Patients treated range from infancy to geriatric population
- Various ethnic populations including Bosnian, Romanian, Russian, Sudanese, Somalian and Burmese just to name a few.
