How does Amma work?
Amma cools the scalp before, during, and after chemotherapy, helping reduce the amount of chemotherapy that reaches the hair follicles.
How is Amma unique?
Amma is portable and compact, which allows patients to get up and move around throughout the infusion center during treatment. Additionally, the wrap is custom-fitted once and can be used throughout your treatment sessions.
What should I expect?
While some thinning is expected during chemotherapy, successful scalp cooling can significantly reduce hair loss. Scalp cooling also supports faster hair regrowth after treatment is over.
How do I get Amma?
Talk to your provider to see if Amma is right for you, and to see if scalp cooling is covered by your insurance carrier.
How do I use Amma?
Patients will use Amma beginning 30 minutes prior to their chemotherapy, for the duration of chemotherapy, and continue for an additional two to three hours after chemotherapy is complete. After the infusion is complete, patients can work with their care team to finish their scalp cooling therapy anywhere in the infusion center that has an outlet.
Is Amma uncomfortable?
Amma has to be cold to be effective. We recommend patients bring a warm jacket or a blanket to chemotherapy to help them feel warm. Most patients say they get used to the cold feeling within the first 30 minutes of treatment.
