Thoracic Oncology / Lung Nurse Navigator

Nicole Sardina, RN, BSN, is the Thoracic Oncology nurse navigator for the Thoracic Oncology Program at the Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS). This program is a collaboration between Cancer Services and the Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery program. Sardina works in coordination with Primary Care, Pulmonary , Hematology/Oncology, and Radiation Oncology offices.

Sardina assists our community by identifying high-risk patients who meet the criteria for lung, esophageal, and other types of thoracic cancer screening and monitor these patients in the program. Sardina will also be the primary point of contact for patients and families if a cancer diagnosis is made, and will offer individualized assistance to help overcome healthcare system barriers and facilitate timely access to quality health from pre-diagnosis through all phases of the cancer experience.

Sardina earned an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing from St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, Utica, New York, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern New Hampshire University, online. She is currently certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

Sardina is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
