Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) has installed a safe medication disposal receptacle at Wynn Hospital, providing patients, visitors, staff and community members with a convenient and anonymous way to dispose of unused or expired medications.

The new INMAR Consumer Drug Take-Back unit is located in the West Concourse of Wynn Hospital, directly across from the Security Office. The receptacle is available at no cost and allows individuals to safely dispose of medications without filling out forms or showing identification.

The unit accepts:

  • Unused or expired prescription medications
  • Schedule II–V controlled substances
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Medications in their original containers or placed in a sealed bag

The following items are not accepted:

  • Sharps, needles or syringes
  • Illegal or illicit drugs
  • Herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements
  • Mercury thermometers or batteries

Using the receptacle is simple: open the top drawer, place medications inside and close the drawer.

Proper medication disposal helps prevent drug misuse, protects patients and families and keeps medications out of the water supply. The new receptacle supports MVHS’s ongoing commitment to medication safety and responsible stewardship within the community.

Patients and families who manage multiple medications at home are encouraged to take advantage of this resource.
