Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) held a free hip and knee patient seminar featuring MVHS Orthopedic Group surgeon Prashant Deshmane, MD, on Wednesday, August 27.

Dr. Deshmane, who specializes in adult reconstruction and sports medicine, discussed nonsurgical and surgical options for hip and knee joint pain. During the seminar, he also spoke about new cutting-edge technology in hip and knee replacement, hip and knee arthritis treatment options and the Mako SmartRobotics arm-assisted technology for knee and hip replacement that he uses for his orthopedic surgical cases.

“It’s so important for patients to know about the advances in robotic surgery, as it offers orthopedic surgeons such as myself more precision and accuracy, which can help with a patient’s recovery period,” said Dr. Deshmane. “My goal was to help everyone who attended better understand what causes hip and knee joint pain, the options for treatment and when surgery should be considered.”

Dr. Deshmane also serves as clinical associate professor in orthopedic surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. He received his medical degree from King Edward Memorial Hospital and completed his residency at Seth Gordhandas Sundardas Medical College, both in Mumbai, India. Dr. Deshmane completed additional training in orthopedic sports medicine with a fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, where he worked as assistant team physician with the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Cubs. Dr. Deshmane is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
