The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) Comprehensive Stroke Program at Wynn Hospital will host two community stroke awareness events at Lee Town Hall located at 5808 Stokes-Lee Center Road in Lee Center. The events will be held Friday, October 9, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, November 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The events are designed to help community members recognize the warning signs of stroke, understand the different types of stroke and learn about the stroke care and treatment options available close to home.

A stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Brain cells can begin to die within minutes, making it critical to recognize the signs of stroke and seek emergency medical care immediately. Recognizing stroke symptoms and calling 911 immediately can help patients receive timely treatment and improve their chances of recovery

Attendees will learn about the incidence and symptoms of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, as well as the importance of acting quickly when symptoms occur. The MVHS Comprehensive Stroke Program team will also share information about the advanced stroke care and treatment available through Wynn Hospital.

The events are open to the community.
